Just about any Internet search for “first search engine” will tell you that it was named “Archie”, and that it was invented only a short time ago, in 1990. Soon thereafter, Search Engines began to evolve and became more and more complex, utilizing vector-based algorithms and systems focused on enhancing the user’s experience. Over the past 19 years the Search industry has developed and grown rapidly, and only the most sophisticated, high-tech, and secretive Search Engines have risen to the top. However, with their success came opportunity and a newly unchartered frontier. The mad dash began, and Website owners raced to achieve placement on the first page of the Search results and beat their competition for the prime spot.
One of the first challenges that Search Engines faced was how to maintain and provide accurate results, while Website owners tried to artificially raise their value by tricking them. In the beginning, it wasn’t a difficult task to rank high; add more content here, repeat keywords there, haphazardly obtain more Links here, and your Webpage would soon be outranking your competition. There were simple ‘methods’ to rank high and few rules being enforced by Search Engines.
Search Engines fought back, developing even more precise and complex algorithms, to detect Link Farms, spam, and artificial content which were overwhelming the industry, and they successfully filtered much of it out of their search results. Search quality became the new standard, and naturally Search Engines who served the most relevant results grew in popularity and ruled the industry as they continued to become more difficult for anyone to fool or reverse engineer.
As Search Engines made it standard practice to embrace new methods of obtaining the most relevant results by adding complex algorithms, Website owners, designers, and marketers were left in the dark and quickly looked to 3rd party tools to keep up. Simple software programs which analyzed Websites for specifically known Search Engine criteria became abundant but disconnected, enhancing a purely manual approach to Search Engine Optimization. The Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) industries emerged. The market became saturated – it was no longer easy to rank high and Website owners were looking for experts to guide them. SEO experts each maintained their own confidential methods, creating a mystique surrounding the industry.
Today, Search Engines continue to keep their algorithms secret in order to maintain their superior Search results. This is good news for the Search Engine user, but is frustrating for SEO experts and Website owners who have little control over their fate. For years, the only choice was to make small changes, and wait for Search Engines to re-crawl the Website – to see the effect (if any) that the prior changes had on its rank. This slow process was often frustrating, and by the time the Website was re-visited by Search Engines, the intended solution often became obsolete. Now, new SEO programs and methods are being developed to provide accurate Search Engine ranking data and empower Website owners and SEO experts with key information, analyses, and strategies to rank high.
Top Search Engine, Google™, revealed PageRank™ – an indicator which enabled users to compare Webpages across the Internet to one another in terms of their perceived importance to the Search Engine. This indicator provides some clues into how a Search Engine thinks, but does not disclose the calculations and detailed methodology behind the final number. Methods like “Siloing” and “PageRank Sculpting” have rapidly gained popularity in the SEO/SEM industries as the new methods for optimizing Websites. However, most people do not have an indicator which allows them to see the hierarchy of Webpages and Links within the Website, and once again it becomes a trial and error guessing game.
In response to the lack of information, data, and strategies being provided by the Search Engines to the general public, Search Engine SEOENG™ was born. It was the brain child of talented individuals from top universities such as Carnegie Mellon University, who sought out to provide a new layer of transparency in Search. SEOENG LLC. began development on the project in late 2006 and publicly unveiled a new kind of Search Engine in early 2008.
Top SEO Expert Jeffrey Smith, President and CEO of SEO Design Solutions, Inc. (www.seodesignsolutions.com), recently commented about his experience using the new Search Engine. He said, "We have found the SEOENG Search Engine is an invaluable asset in determining problems that would have taken hours and hours of discovery time to diagnose (the old fashioned way). With so many facets to organic optimization, finding the source of the problem to address blockages in Link Flow™, refining Market Focus™ (an elevated aspect of Latent Semantic Indexing and keyword density) as well as determining which Webpages are losing potency from Link Loss™ allows us to create buoyancy in rankings for specific Webpages with specific keywords.” Mr. Smith added, “They put the real science of SEO in practice and allow you to know which factors are affecting your Website instead of merely making blanket assumptions. In fact, when our Website was stuck on page 2 for a competitive keyword, we used this tool to diagnose the problem
, which later allowed our Website to occupy top 10 positions for the most competitive term in our industry in Google, Yahoo! and MSN Live.”
Unlike other Search Engines, SEOENG reveals its scoring engine in the form of a navigable user interface or Search Engine Optimization Engine®, disclosing the previously guarded data, strategies, and information to fix Website deficiencies and make any Website rank higher. Essentially a “cipher” for a Search Engine, SEOENG enables its users to surf the Internet through the eyes of a Search Engine, and crawl Websites on-demand, thus eliminating the waiting game.
Finally, Search Engines are becoming SEO friendly.
