This is only one statistic associated with one social platform. Even so, it shows the power of Facebook. Nearly three out of four people are using it for professional reasons.
Now, let’s examine the seven ways freelancers can use social media to grow their client list:
1. Be Consistent with Updates
This is rule number one, as you can’t expect to achieve success via social media if you aren’t consistent with your approach.
Once you select your social networks, you can then implement a schedule for posting regular updates.

2. Share Advice
Don’t use social media for the sole purpose of generating new business. This will come over time as long as you share high quality, professional advice. To get more clients, you need to start with providing something of value to your readers.
You want to prove to your audience you are a thought leader in your niche. The best way to do this is to provide regular updates that share advice for others can use.
3. Help Your Audience
For example, it’s not uncommon for people to use Twitter to seek answers to important business related questions.
When you come across this scenario, don’t hesitate to reach out and provide an answer. Again, don’t do this with the idea that you are going to land a new client. Instead, take this approach because you want to help someone out.
If you do this enough, you’ll soon find that it’s leading to new business.
4. All Quality, All the Time
The more time you devote to social media the easier it becomes to get lazy. As a result, your quality could begin to slip. You don’t want to make this mistake.
Every update should be of the highest quality. After all, you’re attaching your name and business to everything that you say.
When you stick with only the highest quality content, you never have to worry about putting somebody off.
5. Have a Conversation First
Have you ever been contacted by someone on social media who cares about nothing more than landing you as a client? This can be frustrating to say the least.
Don’t take this same approach. Instead, strike up a conversation and build a relationship before you move onto the next step.
6. Use More than One Platform
An example of this would be connecting with a person on LinkedIn after having a brief conversation on Twitter.
This isn’t a necessity, but it gives you more opportunity to connect in the future.
7. From Social Media to the Real World
At some point, you want to take your conversation from social media to the real world. Generally speaking, this means meeting with the contact in person, connecting via email, or jumping on a phone call.
Social media may be where the relationship begins, but if you want to land a new client you’ll need to take things to the next level.
It goes without saying that freelancers make many mistakes, but you don’t have to go down this road in regards to your social media strategy. Instead, you can rely on this advice to land more clients.
